KLADWTWN.SAV items cheat 1.10.99 (updated)

for Fallout 2 v1.02d (Final Patch)


This cheat supersedes the KLAMALL cheat for Fallout 2 v1.0

It differs from my previous KLADWTWN cheats (12.27.98, 1.04.99) in that it's less messy, has more of some items, and includes the XL70E3 rifle, which I did not know existed.


Inspired by the Raiders hack for FO1. Thanx for the info, whoever you are.


This file contains a map section of Klamath into which I have crammed a large number of items and weapons.


Do not use this file if you haven't been to Downtown Klamath.

Do not use this file if you are running v1.0 or any beta-patched version of the game. This file has been tested only with v1.02d.


If you're using a savegame in which you're inside a building in Downtown Klamath, load the game, move outside and onto the street, and save before installing this cheat. Otherwise you may be locked inside and be unable to get out (see Note (6) below).


If you have a Car and it's parked in Klamath, drive it just outside of town 

and save your game before installing this cheat. See Note (1) below.



Instructions


1. Locate the game directory (the one that contains FALLOUT2.EXE).


2. Locate a suitable savegame directory.

   The path will be [game directory]\data\savegame\slot##


3. Make sure that there's a file called KLADWTWN.SAV in this directory.

   If there isn't, you haven't been to Klamath - try another savegame.


4. Back up this savegame. Especially if you have a Car.


5. Move the KLADWTWN.SAV file in the savegame directory somewhere else.

   The root directory of the current drive is fine. Just don't delete it

   or overwrite it.


6. Copy my KLADWTWN.SAV file into the savegame directory.

   You have now replaced your original map of Downtown Klamath with the

   cheat version.


7. Run Fallout2 and load the savegame.


8. If you're not in Downtown Klamath, travel there.


9. Indulge your greed. Locations of items are listed below.


10. Save your game and exit. It won't matter which slot you use.


11. Goto the savegame directory corresponding to the slot that you just

    used and delete the KLADWTWN.SAV file (cheat version).


12. Copy the KLADWTWN.SAV file from step 4 back into the savegame directory.

    You have just restored the map for Downtown Klamath as it existed

    before you used the cheat.


13. Run Fallout2 and load the savegame.


14. Downtown Klamath should be back to "normal". The difference is that

    you'll still have everything you looted.



Notes (please read!)


1. This cheat was generated with no Car whatsoever. You should 

   experience no problems if you have a Car, provided that it's not 

   in Klamath. The simplest way to do this is to drive the Car into an 

   adjacent Wilderness square, walk into town, and save the game

   before installing this cheat.


   The details of why you should do this are tedious, so I won't bore

   you with them. Just park the Car outside Klamath and you'll have

   no problems.


2. Don't use my KLADWTWN.SAV to play out the plot. Replace it with the

   original .SAV after you're finished shopping. If you don't do this,

   various bad things will happen.


3. Against my better judgement, I have included a selection of Special

   Encounter and quest items, including the infamous Hint Book. Several

   of these items are unique and the game will not permit more than one

   of them to exist. If you take any of these items, don't lose them -

   after you remove the cheat, they'll be the only copies of those

   items in the game.


4. While organizing the items for this savegame, I dropped various

   extraneous things around the town, usually on the nearest shelves.

   If you can unlock doors, you can find 2 sets of Power Armor, extra

   weapons, an Elvis painting and a GECK, among other things.


5. I'm including this snippet because several people who were using

   my v1.0 cheat had questions about it: Having the GECK will _not_

   take you to the end of the game. The process of obtaining it is

   far more important than actually possessing it. In fact, the game

   doesn't even care whether you have it at the end. This is why I

   didn't include it with the rest of the quest items, and why I

   strongly recommend that you get it the "normal" way.


6. To speed things up and make items easier to locate, I killed everyone

   in town and locked the doors in all the buildings you don't need to

   access. If you notice NPCs wandering around or doors that are unlocked,

   that's not me -- the game likes to regenerate NPCs and to unlock doors.


7. Since I'm not using the Car this time, I stashed the items in 4 

   separate buildings. Here's the list:

This cheat is entirely of my own making and it has worked in every savegame in which I've installed it. Interplay and BIS had nothing to do with its creation, so don't complain to them if something goes wrong. If you experience odd or unusual effects from using this cheat, feel free to contact me, but I will not be held responsible for bad things arising from user ignorance or incompetence. This is a cheat: it allows you to exploit the workings of the game in unsupported ways, and because of that it is dangerous. Treat it as such.
